SOLUTION CONCEPT 06 / AI-SUPPORTED ASSISTANCE
AI that answers well
and knows when to stop
Useful assistance is not about sounding confident. Assist is a concept for answering from your own material, showing its sources and passing difficult cases to a person.
Adaptable solution concept. This is a starting point we shape with you, not a product available to buy or licence.
THE CONCEPT
What Brightlane Assist
actually is.
A solution concept for AI-supported assistance that answers questions from your own material and hands off to a person when it should.
Brightlane Assist is a concept we design around your content and your risk tolerance, not an assistant product you can switch on today. It describes how AI could help people find answers in your own documented material, with human review of what it says and clear rules for when it should stop. The honest part matters as much as the clever part. We shape the scope, the sources and the hand-off rules together before anything is built.
COMMON CHALLENGES IT ANSWERS
- The same handful of questions takes up most of the support team's day
- Answers differ depending on who replies, because everyone searches differently
- Useful information is buried in long documents nobody reads end to end
- General AI tools answer confidently but not from your approved material
- There is no clear line for when a case should go to a person instead
INTENDED USERS
Who it is
designed for.
Customer service teams
Teams answering the same questions repeatedly who want faster answers without losing accuracy.
Internal support functions
IT, finance or people teams fielding routine questions that already have a documented answer.
Knowledge-heavy operations
Organizations whose staff need to search long procedures or policy documents to do their jobs.
POTENTIAL MODULES
The pieces it
could be built from.
Modules are starting points. An engagement usually begins with two or three of them and adds the rest only if they earn their place.
MODULES
- Approved source library. A defined set of your own documents and records the assistant is allowed to answer from.
- Retrieval and citation. Answers drawn from those sources, with the source shown so a person can check it.
- Hand-off rules. Clear conditions where the assistant stops and routes the question to a human colleague.
- Human review queue. A way for your team to review answers, correct them and improve the underlying material.
- Agent assistance. Suggested answers offered to your own staff, who stay in control of what is sent.
- Gap reporting. Reports on questions the assistant could not answer, showing where content is missing.
CUSTOMISATION
- A source list you control, so the assistant answers only from material you have approved
- Hand-off rules written around your risk areas, such as anything financial, legal or personal
- A choice between drafting for staff review and answering customers directly, topic by topic
- Tone and phrasing matched to how your team already speaks to customers
INTEGRATION CONSIDERATIONS
- Support and ticketing systems
- Document and file storage
- Identity and single sign-on
- Internal databases and line-of-business systems
- Email and calendar
- Notification and chat tools
Categories of system, not named products. What connects depends on what you already run.
EXAMPLE USE CASE
How this could work
in practice.
Representative scenario, illustrative, not a verified client project
A question answered with the source attached
THE SITUATION
A support team answers a high volume of repeat questions about orders and policies. Answers live across several long documents, and new agents take weeks to become confident.
THE SHAPE OF THE WORK
A shaped version of Assist could draft answers from approved policy documents, show the source beside each draft for the agent to check, and route anything about refunds to a person.
WHAT THE TEAM COULD THEN DO
The team could then reply from a consistent set of approved material, review drafts before sending, and see which questions have no documented answer yet.
EXAMPLE WORKFLOW
Choose a narrow scope
We pick a small set of question types where the answers are already documented and low risk.
Agree the sources
We define exactly which material the assistant may use, and who keeps that material correct.
Set the limits
We write the hand-off rules, including topics the assistant must never attempt to answer alone.
Build with review
We build the assistant so your team reviews its answers before trusting it with anything customer-facing.
Widen slowly
We review real questions and errors together, improve the sources, and extend the scope only where it has earned trust.
QUESTIONS
Questions about
this concept.
No. It is a solution concept rather than an assistant product with pricing or availability. We design and build a version around your own sources and rules.
Nothing removes that risk completely, which is why review is part of the design. We narrow the sources, show citations, keep a human review step and define topics it must hand off.
That is agreed with you, and we tend to draw the line generously. Anything sensitive, contractual, financial or simply unclear is usually better routed to a colleague.
