SERVICE 02 / SOFTWARE SHAPED AROUND HOW YOUR BUSINESS ACTUALLY WORKS

Built for your process,
not around it

When a product nearly fits, the gap usually gets filled by people. Custom software closes that gap, and we keep it small enough to maintain.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

What this work
is for.

A spreadsheet solved a problem once. Three years on it has twenty tabs, one person who understands it, and a process the business depends on running inside it.

WHAT WE DO

Custom software is worth building when your process is genuinely your own and bending a product to fit it would cost more than writing it. We build internal platforms, customer-facing portals and line-of-business applications, starting from the smallest version that does real work and growing it from there. The code is written to be read by whoever comes next, with tests around the parts that would hurt if they broke. You own it, and we document it so that ownership means something.

BUSINESS PROBLEMS THIS ANSWERS

  • A spreadsheet running the business. Critical work happens in a file with no history, no permissions and no safety net. Everyone knows it, nobody has time to replace it.
  • Off-the-shelf nearly fits. The product covers most of the process, so staff keep a side system for the rest. Now there are two versions of the truth.
  • An inherited system nobody can change. The original developers have gone, there are no tests, and small changes are quoted as large ones because nobody knows what will break.
  • Work that only one person can do. A task survives because a particular colleague remembers the exceptions. Holidays and resignations become operational risk.

CAPABILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

What is involved,
and what you get.

RELEVANT CAPABILITIES

  • Internal platforms. Operational tools for the teams who run quoting, scheduling, onboarding or fulfillment day to day.
  • Customer portals. Self-service areas where clients can see their own orders, documents and status without emailing someone to ask.
  • Business applications. Focused applications that replace a spreadsheet or a paper form with something auditable and shared.
  • Workflow and approvals. Rules, states and sign-off steps modelled explicitly, so exceptions are handled in the system rather than in email.
  • Legacy modernization. We add tests and seams around an existing system so it can be changed in steps instead of replaced in one risky push.
  • Architecture and technical review. A second opinion on a build in progress, covering structure, data model and the decisions that will be expensive to reverse.

TYPICAL DELIVERABLES

  • Working software in production
  • Data model and schema
  • Automated test suite
  • Technical documentation
  • Deployment pipeline
  • Handover and training session

WHAT COULD IMPROVE

  • Processes that no longer depend on one person's memory
  • A system your team can change without a rewrite
  • Fewer parallel spreadsheets maintained beside the real tool
  • Clearer audit trails for work that previously happened in email

Possible improvements, not guaranteed outcomes.

EXAMPLE WORKFLOW

How an engagement
usually runs.

A typical shape. The order changes with the situation, and we say so when it does.

01

Frame

We agree what the first useful version has to do, and just as importantly what it does not.

02

Model

We work out the data and the states behind the process, because getting that wrong is the expensive mistake.

03

Build in slices

We ship thin end-to-end slices you can use early, rather than finished layers you cannot see.

04

Harden

We add tests, error handling and the dull operational detail that decides whether a system is pleasant to own.

05

Transfer

We walk your team through the code, the pipeline and the decisions, and leave the notes behind.

02

Build a Digital Product

A defined first version is live with real users, instrumented so the team can see how it is used and decide what comes next.

01

Simplify Operations

Each request has a defined path, a visible status and a named owner. Routine steps run on their own, and exceptions reach the right person with the context attached.
